40k years ago

it did sort of .... (and it was BRIEF ... only 440 years or so? lol)
(FYI - you have DOVE into one of my favorite places ... connections!!!)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_human_prehistory#Upper_Paleolithic

a quick summary of what happened ~40k
40,000 years ago: extinction of Homo neanderthalensis.[10]
all the megafauna went extinct (clearly multiple causes)

great leap forward happened around this date
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_human_evolution#Homo
pretty much ALL of modern human happened

along with killing, mutations would happen, and rapid punctuated evolution

the last BIG ice age started around 30k ....

and ... homo sapiens will NOT go extinct from a reversal ...
but most of civilization will collapse, killing billions, which people would incorrect call "extinction" .. heh
