FYI - it's not just animals that we do this.
I have been watching this develop in artificial intelligence (AI).
In the EARLY days, they picked easy things to DENY AI CAN EVER EXIST!!!
Computers will never win at Chess ... done
Computers will never win at Go (harder than chess) done
Computers will never read handwriting!! (Post office and banks have been doing this with computers for decades)
Computers will never recognize speech, yawn
Computers will never recognize faces, yawn
So they move the bar - artificial GENERALIZED intelligence (AGI)
Computers will never be identical to humans. yawn
They keep moving the bar on animals.
If they dont, everyone MUST be vegans, and owning pets would be illegal (right? Slavery, etc...)
(Mostly tongue in cheek)
