solar desert

10,000 square miles
That's the area needed for solar panels. To supply 100% of the current usage in the US. lol

ONLY 1/300th of the lower 48.
Double that to account for transmission, etc.
1/150th ... of the US

AKA, we can not replace current power with solar.

(I did the math twice - using data from two different source)
4000 TWh/year
1.6 TWh/year - biggest solar plant in CA (about 5sq)
so 10-20,000 SQUARE MILES are need.

HINT: if you think solar is green, you are insane.
a) what are you going to go, with everything is living on that ground now?
b) when they built these plants, they had to move the wildlife!!
c) whoops - how many immigrants do we need to clean the solar panels

SO IF your PLAN is to SAVE THE PLANET.
You need to rethink your plan.

Everything costs something
ZERO POP OR BUST

ICING

that's not how cooling works

FOR YOU?
Ice with water, allows the bag to better conform the the area of your knee.

your KNEE is HOT (ooo baby) ... 80f
(sigh measured mine, it is 81.6f)
ICE and ICE water is 32f

When you apply the bag to your heat - HEAT is transferred from your knee to the ICE/ICE water.
Your KNEE gets cold, the ICE melts and the ICE water gets warmer.

The colder the bad, the "greater" the HEAT transfer.
But you dont want to use dry ice, you will get frost bite. hahahah

Irene is just reusing the ice and ice water by putting it into the refreezer.

THOSE ICE GEL packs work in the same way, BUT ...
they are GEL ... so there is LESS HEAT that they can absorb.

MELTING ice takes a LOT of energy, compared to WARMING ICE cold water.

YOU REALLY want to mess with Irene?
Add salt to the ICE!!

from stackoverflow - this will melt your brain
[[ When you add salt to an ice cube, you end up with an ice cube whose temperature is above its melting point.

This ice cube will do what any ice cube above its melting point will do: it will melt. As it melts, it cools down, since energy is being used to break bonds in the solid state.

(Note that the above point can be confusing if you're new to thinking about phase transitions. An ice cube melting will take up energy, while an ice cube freezing will give off energy. I like to think of it in terms of Le Chatelier's principle: if you need to lower the temperature to freeze an ice cube, this means that the water gives off heat as it freezes.)

The cooling you get, therefore, comes from the fact that some of the bonds in the ice are broken to form water, taking energy with them. The loss of energy from the ice cube is what causes it to cool. ]]

self driving cars - again

I have recently been a top of the line SUV.
And the COOL STUFF is FUCKING AMAZING ... the video screen for parking is seriously the best thing ever. (Think what you have already seen and then upgrade 5 times.)

And the auto-pacing while driving on the highway is pretty cool. It is the next obvious step from cruise control.

And the WARNINGS when you are doing stupid shit is nice.
And when THEY are doing stupid shit is nice.
The learning curve will be "setting" it to where you are happy and not yelling at the car the whole time.

We already KNOW what they next gens will look like. Self driving, you in the "back seat" watching tv, eat, <blank>ing, sleeping, working.
Everything BUT driving and paying attention.

HELL, at what point do cars KNOW which cars and vehicles around them are self-driving versus DANGEROUS and make extra allowances.

heh

the veil of ignorance

Ed Martin - the POINT that most people ignore, through ignorance or selective blindness is JUSTICE.

Rawls goes on and on and on about this in a theory of justice.

The "veil of ignorance" is a method of determining the morality of issues. It asks a decision-maker to make a choice about a social or moral issue, and assumes that they have enough information to know the consequences of their possible decisions for everyone but would not know, or would not take into account, which person he or she is. The theory contends that not knowing one's ultimate position in society would lead to the creation of a just system, as the decision-maker would not want to make decisions which benefit a certain group at the expense of another, because the decision-maker could theoretically end up in either group.

NOW, pretend that YOU ARE AT THE BOTTOM, living on the street,
Create a system that is just, for everyone.

OUR current legal system is the opposite of a justice system:
MONEY = get of jail free,
POOR = life in prison, with zero hope of escape.
(check this box if you are a felon, so we wont hire you)

IF you have nothing, you MUST steal to feed yourself.
EVERYONE does this. And yet wee punish them for this.

TO BE "FAIR", one consequence of "poverty" level, is that our society ACCEPTS that people at this level ... need something. food stamps, housing, vouchers for whatevers.
Universal BASIC income would be a different variant of this.
UNIVERSAL BASIC healthcare would be another.

Pick the top 10 countries in the world that YOU WOULD LIVE and WORK today.
Pick the bottom 10 countries.

Tell me what differentiates them.
mhmmmm
HOW they treat the people at the bottom.
By definition how "christian" they are, taking care of the least amongst us.

sigh
