There is a FANTASTIC book on this subject (written by a female doctor of course) (her introduction about her years in med school is amazing).

I can not recommend this book enough.
The development of the female brain, from conception to death.
FANTASTIC read.
("There there truckie" will make you laugh your ass off')
As a scientist, she talks about the science of the body, and how during development, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.
When I first finished it, my first thought was WOW. And then WERE is "The Male Brain"?? She wrote the sequel a few years later.
