(I have a million aunts and uncles who have died, but while some of them were closer than others, none of them were best friends.)
A friend from work, someone I have known for 10 years? A long time. Well, she has been fighting cancer for over 2 years now, and it has won. She is off treatment and off to hospice.
While we were never "really close", she was a great person to work with, fun and bright.
And sharing the tiny bit you get from being facebook friends, well that got me to see another side of her.
She is the closest thing to a contemporary that has died/will die that I have known.
It is a whole new thing for me.
If there is any good news with this bad news, she had no kids.
She didnt make it to 40.
her husband posted this today
Dear friends and family, Sara's not responding to treatment and has gotten much worse. The doctors say there's nothing else they can do. She's not coming home.
We're moving her into a beautiful hospice facility in Milwaukee to improve her quality of life, but the doctors are now speaking in terms of days, not months. She can't walk without becoming fatigued, and she has difficulty speaking or breathing because her lungs are compromised. She is feeling very little pain.
Visitors are welcome for short visits, keeping in mind that Sara requires her rest. Know that we are aware of the love that surrounds us at this difficult time. Thank you all, for everything.
Zilber Family Hospice is just a mile from Froedtert, and located at:
