  1. Off the top of my head:
For a different sort of museum, Sir John Soane's Museum is worth a visit.
St. Paul's Cathedral is a fine building and you can get a great view of it by walking from the Tate Modern across the Milleninum Bridge.
Around St Paul's is the City of London. Leadenhall Market is a good late-Victorian building and just across the road is the Lloyds Insurance building. A good "general" (not too touristy) market is Old Spitalfields - this has some reasonable Street food. The best known food market is Borough Market which does have some very good (but expensive) produce. Whitecross street market is a good street-food market. Nearby is the Museum of London. The Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition is a different sort of art exhibition but does get crowded.

    Further afield: Oxford
Even further afield (but only three hours by train) there's Newcastle (but I'm biased) - and you'll get the best view of Durham Cathedral and Castle if you do go on the train

    Scotland?

  2. If you are looking for a "fish and chips experience", Horniman's (I think the selling is right), which is right on the Thames, was very good.
