so the next insanity is to try an older driver
specifically, using the driver 267.91 (71?) which was the driver used on tomshardware.com for the 590 benchmarks ...

the only good news is at the LOWEST video settings, things are possibly playable

the solution was changing the DX setting in wow from DX9 to DX11???
